Hey,
Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it!
I guess I just want to try and get inside your head a little bit and find out your processes and what you're interested in because looking at your website I think we share quite a few of the same interests in terms of design.
So first off could you tell more about what inspired the Divided Kingdom project, and the process behind creating the flags and the publication? I also wondered what your general opinions are on the North-South divide - is it something that you've noticed in particular coming from the North but being in the south for your degree? And if so do you think that's had a big impact generally on the type of projects you are interested in and the work you produce?
For me personally I find it interesting to compare the experiences between university education for myself in the North and my friends that are in the South, and there seems to be very different energies and outlooks between students in each respective area. I read that you went to university in Brighton, which is pretty much as far South as you can go! Brighton obviously has a good reputation for Graphic Design and is somewhere that I also considered when choosing a uni. What were your experiences like on the course in terms of projects and opportunities, and also being so close to London and what London has to offer?
Flags seem to be a bit of theme in your work at the moment (which I love!) - is the crossover between graphic design and textiles something that you're interested in and something that you think you will continue to explore further? If so are there any textile/design artists in particular who you look and that interest you?
I also noticed that your publication Pirouettes was printed on a Risograph. Can I ask where you printed it? Just for practicalities sake because I do a lot of projects with Risographs but finding a Riso that is available to use seems to be getting a lot harder now that it's getting popular again!
Apologies for the late reply! if you don't have time to answer these just yet then no worries. I appreciate your time all the same! I know these are quite lengthy questions so if it's easier to chat through things on facebook or something instead just let me know, whatever works for you!
As a side note: I've been wanting to message you about your work for a little while now but it just so happens that I've been given a uni brief that encourages us to reach out and 'interview' industry professionals and people of interest. Any interviews we conduct forms the basis of some practical work and could be turned into a publication or something similar about our experiences with interviewing. Bit cheeky I know but if you would you mind me using our conversation as a starting point to create some work? If so that would be cool but if not just let me know, no problem at all.
Best,
Erin
