OUGD502 - Studio Brief 02 - Interview Flag Ideas

The main themes touched on in the interview with Will were the North-South Divide, available spaces for young creatives (studio space, gallery space etc.), and Risograph printing. Thinking about each of these concepts and how they could each be represented, a series of sketches were created to outline possible ideas.

The flag that represents space plays on the idea of a three dimensional room, such as a studio or gallery space, but is also a variation of a tri-colour flag design that is used by many countries around the world.

The design that depicts the North-South divide uses the obvious imagery or two colours creating two distinct areas on the flag.

The flag designs that represents the Risograph machines symbolises both at once the different gradients used to create images using the printing technique, and the stack of paper as it is printed and ejected into the out tray.

Critiquing these ideas with peers revealed that designs 1, 6 and 11 were the most contextual informed and also the most visually appealing.
